Storm Water System Purpose
Racine County Public Works protects our community’s investment in natural
resources through responsible management of storm water. Precipitation
falling onto county trunk highways eventually enters the waterways which supply
our community with drinking water and recreation. Racine County maintains
its trunk highway system in accord with the needs of infrastructure and water
resource users alike. By maintaining this harmony among all stakeholders,
Racine County Public Works improves the quality of life for all Racine County
citizens, our neighbors, as well as our guests.
Legislative Foundation
Racine County Public Work’s water resource stewardship role stems from the
guidance provided by federal and state water quality legislation. This
guidance highlights three key influences upon our storm water
system: highway development and maintenance, utility company development
and maintenance, and neighboring landowner access to the county trunk highway
system.
Implementation
Racine County Public Works implements best management policies which reflect
federal and state legislation in the light of the three influence
categories. Our policies - development and maintenance, utility, and
access - all contain water quality protection provisions. In this way
Racine County unites highway managers and users alike in a team approach that
not only protects but improves our community’s water resources.
